Since Election Day I have been struggling with how I can use my art to make sense of the world. I am normally a very guarded person but I can not be silent when so many people in this country need me to speak up.
A friend of mine is going to the Women’s March in Seattle. I wanted to go as well but because of prior commitments I can’t swing it. I thought about wanting to be there and show my solidarity and how I was somehow letting people down by not being there and adding to the numbers.
I decided I wanted to make some signs for my friend to carry in the march and since she is going with some of our friends I could make some signs for them too. Then I thought I should make as many signs as I can and she can pass them out. Knowing that I can’t be there at least my message can be. And with a sign you can communicate a message to many without having to speak to each individual person.
After I posted the above image of my daughter lying with the signs I got a flood of comments of other people wanting a way to carry my signs as well.
Honestly, this is the best possible reaction I could have ever hoped for. The thought of my signs in marches across the country is beyond the limit of what I thought possible when I decided to start making these.
I am offering these Signs as a free download. Please feel free to use them for the Women's March this Saturday January 21, 2017 and any subsequent marches from now on.
