STEP 2: Gather all your other supplies

  1. Cup of Water
  2. Watercolor paint (Cheap kid paint works perfectly, no need to go out and get anything fancy.)
  3. Some way to apply the paint (I use paintbrushes. Again it doesn't have to be fancy you could use a cut up sponge.)
  4. Pen (I used a metallic Gelly Roll.)
  5. Paper (Should be thick enough that it won’t curl from the paint and water, I used some watercolor paper that I cut down to the same size as my envelope.)
  6. Your free artwork download printed out.
  7. (not pictured) Light. I use a light table, but you could also use light coming in through a window.

Step Three : Watercolor Paint your paper

Using your light source place the paper on top of the artwork printout. (You will use this as a guide to keep your paint centered.) Just slap the paint on any way you want. It does not have to be precise. You can repeat this step on as many pieces of paper as you want. If you create an assembly line you can make a lot of cards pretty quickly.

Step Four : Let your paint dry fully.

If you are making several pieces of stationery the first few might even be dry by the time you finish painting; depending on how much water you lay down.

Step Five : Get Ready to Trace

Now get your pen, realign your painted paper over the printed artwork, hold it all together over your light source and start tracing!

Here is an in process shot. It doesn't have to be perfect, feel free to simplify, modify and embellish on my art work. There are no rules! Just have fun!

Once you've finished your tracing are ready to write your letter! If you made several you can keep your stack in an easy to find place (like your Pen Gal Kit) so they are ready when you are.

You can  also use this to create a piece of artwork for your home or for your friends :D Just make your paper the size of a picture frame and follow all the steps!

There are so many ways you can use this template to make some beautiful art. Add different colors, paint it like a coloring book, add a monogram, draw part of the artwork on just a corner... Below are a few examples.
