I have started seeing some pretty whimsical design solutions out there lately and I am loving it! The first one I would like to point out is the re-branding of Seattle’s Best Coffee. When I first saw the logo. I hated it and I think most other designers did as well. But I think the brand has been saved in the execution of all the collateral. The first campaign I noticed was for winter and I wish I could find an image of it because it was beautiful. Here is the look of their spring campaign:
I just love the whimsical illustration style. It makes me feel happy and giddy; exactly the feeling I get from a caffeine kick.
In my opinion Seattle’s Best was a dying brand for coffee shop goers (I see them a lot in hotels and stuff). This new logo has revitalized this company. I think they have done a great job in telling a new story and going after a new target market. I can’t wait to see what the next promotion will be.
The other example I happened across was packaging for Nutella:
I’m wondering if this new whimsical style is a new trend in design? If so I am going to sit back and enjoy what will be produced, and maybe try my hand at it as well
